SHAKHRISABZ
Hometown of Amir Timur

The city of Shakhrisabz is the hometown of Amir Timur. Translated from Persian, "Shahri Sabz" means "green city". It was named so by Timur himself.
Timur's palace Ak-Saray was located here, around which a huge garden was laid out. Also on the territory of this palace, Amir Timur built mausoleums for his 2 sons. Next to the mausoleums of his sons, Timur built a mausoleum for himself, because Shakhrisabz was to become the family tomb of the Timurids.
Route
Ak-Saray Palace
We will start with one of the most grandiose monuments of the Timurid era of the late 14th - early 15th centuries. The construction was carried out under the supervision of Amir Temur himself, who wanted to build a luxurious palace in his hometown. The height of the palace portal reached more than 70 meters. At this time, two pylons of the entrance portal, more than 30 meters high, have survived from the palace.
The construction of the palace began in 1380 and was completed in 1386, but finishing work continued until 1404. The majestic palace was built in memory of Amir Temur's mother Takinakhotun. Only a part of the monument has survived to this day.
Dorus-Saodat Memorial Complex
You will see the mausoleum built by Amir Temur for his beloved eldest son. And appreciate the grandeur of the structure, on which the best architects from different cities of the empire worked. Over time, the complex began to act as a family crypt for part of the Timurid dynasty.
Tamerlane's Crypt
Amir Temur is buried in Samarkand, in Gur-Emir. However, Timur initially wanted to be buried in Shakhrisabz, next to his sons. For this purpose, he built a crypt with a marble sarcophagus for himself.
Dorut-Tillyavat Memorial Complex
On the territory of an ancient cemetery in the south-eastern part of Shakhrisabz, you will visit a burial complex of the 14th-15th centuries. Emir Taragay, the father of Amir Temur, is buried here.
The complex began to form after the death of Sufi Shamseddin Kulyal, a famous religious figure, the spiritual mentor of Taragay and Temur himself, as well as one of the founders of the Sufism movement. You will hear about a man who played an important role in the formation and development of the legendary ruler. And visit his mausoleum, a place of attraction for pilgrims from different countries of Asia.
Kok-Gumbaz Mosque
Among the majestic palaces and memorial complexes of Shakhrisabz, a blue dome of the mosque rises right from the green gardens, visible from almost any part of the city. You will learn about the history of the 15th century building - the largest Friday mosque in the city, where all the main religious services were held. And you will hear about the initiator of the construction - Mirzo Ulugbek, a famous astronomer, public figure and grandson of Amir Temur.
Lunch in the mountains
At the Takhta Karacha pass with stunning views of the valley, delicious meat is cooked on a tandoor. This is juicy lamb baked in the oven. At the end of the trip, you will taste a dish prepared according to a recipe that only the mountaineers know.
